Imagine my shock, when I saw the following chart for measles. If you chop it between 1960 and today, the slope looks a lot more impressive. But when looking at the big picture, we can’t help but ask: Is the vaccine really to be credited with the steep drop in mortality for this illness? Or could other factors have something to do with it? Looking at similar charts for other infectious illnesses shows a similar plot.

That means that if you are looking at 100, p<.05, that means that there’s a 95 percent probability that what you’re seeing is real and not by chance. When you get to p<.001, that means there is a 1 in 1,000 probability that what you’re seeing is by chance. That’s really strong evidence.”

My husband and I were excited about the future with our growing family. Upon my first maternity visit, in addition to other information, the doctor gave me instructions to be wary of taking any medications. I wasn’t taking prescription medications; however, my doctor also warned me about over-the-counter medications. She said that I should not even take acetaminophen (Tylenol) unless I really needed it. I was very careful to follow her instructions, wishing to give my baby the best chance of being born healthy.

In 2021, it was my turn to support my daughter who was having her first baby. I was happy to attend those first appointments with her eagerly sharing in this special time. Her pregnancy was advancing normally, and all systems were go. Then, during one of her appointments, the physician’s assistant (PA) said something that almost made me fall off my chair. She told my daughter that it was now time to give her some vaccines to immunize her developing fetus. Giving vaccines to a developing fetus, I had never heard of this, and it sounded strange. The PA explained that the nurse would give the shots in my daughter’s arm muscle so the vaccines would go through her blood stream, cross the placenta, and enter her baby’s blood stream through the umbilical cord. She would be receiving the Tdap vaccine and the Covid-19 vaccine. My daughter and I looked at each other in shock. This was a far cry from the advice several decades earlier not to take a Tylenol unless you absolutely must.

When my daughter refused the vaccines because the Covid-19 vaccine was new and untested on pregnant women, the physician’s assistant said something that made us extremely concerned about her knowledge base. She said that the Covid-19 vaccine was just a weakened virus in some salt water and nothing to be alarmed about. She did not even know the brand she was promoting was in fact new and experimental mRNA technology which did not have final approval by the FDA at the time and had not been tested on pregnant women. She had no idea about mRNA technology or its mechanism of action in the body.

Needless to say, I was alarmed. This new technology was far from a weakened virus in sterile salt water. In addition, my daughter had been fully vaccinated as a child. My husband and I had dutifully followed the doctor’s orders without question back then. We didn’t do our own research, because we fully believed after eleven years of education and years of practice in the field, the pediatricians had completed thorough research on the medications they were ordering, including any vaccines. We trusted them completely.

I was shocked that a health care practitioner was recommending my daughter take a new technology not tested for safety on pregnant women and their developing babies. In the past, obstetricians didn’t want their patients to even take a Tylenol or cold medication, and suddenly, they were recommending a new experimental technology for pregnant women whose age group has a very low chance of death from Covid-19. This made no sense. There was no research regarding the effects on the developing baby before and after birth when my daughter was pregnant in 2021. Therefore, I continued to complete my own research on the subject, and what I discovered was alarming.

In 2022, more research data became available, and I searched for a source that was not supported by money from pharmaceutical companies and had no conflicts of interest with the World Health Organization (WHO) that developed guidelines with the stated intention of fully controlling all pandemics for member nations. These guidelines remove the national sovereignty of these countries to address pandemics within their own borders. Thus far, these guidelines have been voted down by the member nations (VOA, 2024). These developments made me even more concerned about the direction the WHO was taking. However, I found the reliable source I was looking for.

Naomi Wolf (2022) gathered a number of medical and health professionals and scientists who volunteered to review Pfizer’s own documents regarding what they discovered about pregnancy and the Covid vaccine. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) did not want this data revealed for 75 years. A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was made, and a judge ordered the documents released. It was discovered that pregnant women had not been included in phases 1, 2 or 3 of the Pfizer Covid-19 trials. However, when the Covid-19 vaccine became available, they were recommended to receive it anyway. Below is what the safety data revealed when collected on women pregnant and nursing after being given mRNA Covid-19 vaccines.

The FDA requires Pfizer to collect any publicly available data on adverse events related to vaccination once it goes to market. Confidential document (5.3.6 Cumulative Analysis of Post-authorization Adverse Event Reports) contains case reports for the first 68 days of vaccine rollout (from 12/20/2020 to 2/28/2021). The section covering pregnancy and lactation on pages 12-13, reveals that 20% of the 413 reported cases of adverse events were “serious.” These included 25 miscarriages, 5 fetal deaths as well as uterine contractions during pregnancy, preterm deliveries, premature rupture of membranes, and fetal growth restriction. Also included were serious and less serious adverse side effects of breast-fed babies that included infantile vomiting, fever, rash, agitation, and allergy to the vaccine. There were also 6 cases of women having adverse events who received COVID-19 vaccine while breast feeding; some of these include paresis (partial paralysis), suppressed lactation, breast pain, migraines, and breast milk discoloration. Pfizer’s response to the above alarming data was, “There were no safety signals that emerge from the review of these cases of use in pregnancy and while breast feeding” (DailyClout, 2022).

Even after this data was released, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) continues to encourage vaccination for pregnant women. The CDC (2024) website states, “There is limited information available about the safety of the COVID-19 vaccines for people who are pregnant, however, based on how these vaccines work in the body, experts believe they are unlikely to pose risk for pregnant people.” This is not the most reassuring statement I have ever read about a new medical product being given to pregnant women and their developing babies.

Any physicians taking a stand against pregnant women, or anyone for that matter, receiving the Covid vaccine may have had their hospital admitting privileges and even their license to practice threatened. The most courageous physicians had their licenses removed by their state medical boards, and they are fighting to have them reinstated.

I searched professional academic literature for recent research, and it is full of conflicts of interests with the scientists involved with the CDC or the WHO (Pub Med, 2022). In addition, many research studies have funding from pharmaceutical companies. Even some physicians I talked with did not know the top position at the CDC is politically appointed by the President. The leader in the top position at the CDC is very influential in setting policy for the entire government agency. Currently, the US is the largest donor to the WHO (2024) with Bill Gates’ foundation being the second largest donor. Mr. Gates’ foundation (2024) has serious investments in virus technology as well as vaccine development. Please educate your health care practitioners. Many do not know and are not educated in their medical school or by their professional organization regarding these issues.

Pfizer’s own evidence proves the potential safety risks of pregnant women receiving mRNA COVID-19 vaccines (DailyClout, 2022). We live in an age when profits are sometimes placed over safety. However, we also live in a time when access to information and knowledge is greater than it’s been in recorded history. Censorship is a constant threat from leaders and governments who do not want people to do their own research. It’s important to take advantage of this time to check the accuracy of what we’re being told by public health officials, scientists, and practitioners alike.

We must be our own health advocates when traversing the medical world by completing our own research of the evidence. This includes considering where the evidence is coming from and who is paying for it. My biostatistics professor in college clearly demonstrated to our class how easy it is to lie and mislead the public using statistics. We must support policies and laws that identify the wolves in sheep’s clothing and get the wolves out of the chicken pen. Then, we must hold these wolves accountable for their actions that have harmed people. And, if this means liquidating their assets to help those they have harmed, it’s been done before. They should no longer be allowed to hide behind a law that lets them say, "You can’t sue us no matter the destruction we have caused." The people must take a stand!

Having worked in the medical and health world for many years, I know that the vast majority of professionals who have devoted their lives to this field are good people who have care and compassion for their patients and truly want to “do no harm.” We must support them as well, as they were on the frontlines of this pandemic battle, being told the same information as the rest of us, and when they balked, physicians had their licenses threatened and some removed, and the nurses had their jobs threatened and many were fired. Too many nurses were pulled from the bedside of their very ill patients during a nursing shortage and perp-walked out the front door of their hospitals by security guards like a common criminal because they refused to comply with the Covid-19 injection mandates after completing their own research. They explain guidelines for forgiveness and ten people and/or places you should forgive now. This article is the third in the forgiveness series that teaches you “how to” forgive.

I’ll never forget the urgency that came across a text I received in 2020. It was a young nurse that I knew, and she sounded frantic, even in a text. She remembered me from years earlier when I taught at the nursing school she attended. I was surprised to hear from her as she was smart, but not always the most studious, and there were days I wondered if she would make it through the program. However, she did make it and here she was taking a very brave stance on the frontlines of a very confusing, very tough time during a pandemic we were all struggling to understand. She said, “Please help me understand this, I work at a skilled nursing facility (nursing home) and half my patients have died. They are asking me to go part-time as there are not enough residents left to require my full-time work. I am very upset.”

I called her to better understand. This is news I had never heard before. It sounded strange and in normal times health officials would have investigated right away. I asked her if she had any idea what had caused this many resident deaths at once. Each flu season many elderly die in our country, but not half the residents in a skilled nursing facility, not even close to that. Hospitals generally try and keep flu patients from being admitted if they can be treated at home, because of the risk imposed to surgery patients and others with compromised immune systems. However, the year 2020 was different, because a flu pandemic with a novel strain we had not seen before was especially hitting hard in the U.S. and other Western nations. It was a very difficult and confusing time.

My former student continued by explaining that patients with Covid had been discharged from the hospital to the skilled nursing facility where she worked as a nurse infecting the residents who lived there. I had heard about this happening in another state but was surprised to hear of it happening in my state. I asked whether her administration or the companies who owned the home could step in and ask that these infected clients be kept in the hospital longer. I thought perhaps special accommodations could be made in hospital units better equipped to care for these clients, like negative pressure rooms for airborne precautions, filtering the infected air outside of the hospital and specialized UV lights to sterilize a room when an infected patient was discharged. She said her skilled nursing facility was not allowed to turn these Covid infected patients away.

I will avoid making assumptions as it was a very difficult time and the medical community had never experienced anything remotely like this in our lifetimes, not on this scale. It took time to establish facilities that were especially dedicated to caring for Covid patients. However, I wondered if there could have been other arrangements made at the time because skilled nursing facilities are generally not equipped with special accommodations like those mentioned above to care for residents with a deadly airborne communicable disease especially being admitted from the outside to their facilities.

I realized the immediate need in front of me was to help this young nurse who was grieving the loss of half her residents and the loss of half her wages she needed to support herself and her family. I told her about forgiveness and described how this simple technique had helped a lot of people I had worked with in healing as well as meeting other life goals. Her immediate goal was to obtain a full-time job with benefits, making more than enough money to meet her family needs. However, there was not a specific person that she knew to forgive as these decisions were made at a federal and state level.

Below is information I shared with this nurse and with all my coaching clients regarding how to forgive. You can use these guidelines to forgive individuals or groups. Sometimes decisions are made, and a person doesn’t know an individual to forgive because a decision has been made by a government, federal or state agency, organizations, corporations or by a group of religious leaders. In cases like this, I suggest taking the following simple steps on how to forgive.

Simple Steps You Can Take to Forgive

First, settle yourself in a comfortable chair or place where you will not be disturbed while you complete this forgiveness technique. You do not need to contact anyone. This can be done in the privacy and comfort of your own home. Settle any pets or children you may have and turn off any electronic equipment that may disturb you. Then, visualize in your mind’s eye a group of people sitting at a conference table or in nature, whatever works for you. This group will represent the people you are forgiving. If you have trouble visualizing in your mind’s eye, find a picture online of a group that represents them. Once you can see them in your mind’s eye, visualize them as they would look if they had made the most wise, healthy and appropriate decisions treating people fairly, compassionately, ethically, and morally. If you use a picture, use a picture of people that best shows these positive attributes and virtues listed.

Then say a simple forgiveness statement to them. Christians have asked if they can say they forgive people through the Grace of God and Jesus. I tell them that is fine if they also sincerely forgive the people themselves. You may wish to say something like this below directed at the people you wish to forgive.

(Through the grace of Jesus/God), I forgive you completely and freely, I release you and let you go. So far as I’m concerned, the incident(s) that happened between us is finished forever, I wish the best for you. I wish for you your highest good. I am free and you are free and all again is well between us. Peace be with you.

Now, visualize the people you are forgiving accepting your forgiveness.

Once this young nurse had forgiven the people who made the decision that led to half the residents in her nursing home dying, and her hours and pay being cut in half, she applied for and received a new nursing job that better met her needs and goals.

Many people have used these exact words to forgive and experienced positive results. Once the lack of forgiveness was no longer burdening them, they found their prayers were answered and they met life goals more quickly and easier. I don’t suggest changing the words, but if you do change them, avoid words to justify your anger and/or disappointment. For example, avoid a sentence such as, “I forgive you for not being the leaders I wanted you to be.” Avoid negative words like “not” and “want.”

You can use this same statement to forgive any person living or deceased or any group. How do you know you need to forgive? Any person or group that makes you feel hurt and/or resentment when you think of them needs your forgiveness. Make a list of the people from the sandbox through today that you need to forgive. You can also forgive yourself. Then, set a time each day to work through your list. Say the forgiveness statement written above for each person separately, unless there is a specific group, then say the forgiveness statement for each group.

Follow the same guidelines as above, settling in a comfortable, undisturbed place and bring each person to your mind’s eye looking as if they treated you like they should have. If you cannot visualize them, visualize a balloon representing them. Visualize them accepting your forgiveness. Forgiveness does not mean how they treated you was justified. It is not a weak strategy you use for other people. It frees you from the burden that lack of forgiveness can become blocking your life desires. It’s the best, most positive action you can take for yourself and others. Forgiveness is freeing, can bring mental, emotional and physical healing and can help you meet your life’s dreams and goals.

By: Connie Domino, BSN, MPH, RN

ConnieDomino.com

Mankind, as we know it today, has existed for approximately 300,000 years, and often experienced extended periods of time when food of any kind was totally unavailable.

As our species evolved, it seems likely that the humans who procreated were the ones who managed to eat the highest calorie foods whenever it was available, in order to make it through a famine. They survived by eating whatever they could whenever they could. As a result, over the millennia this behavior was programmed into our DNA.

How has the human body adapted to the current day and age when food is not only easily accessible, cheap, and designed to be extremely palatable, but highly processed, causing it to have minimal nutrition? And how has mankind adapted to the endocrine disrupting additives such as plastics, fertilizers, chemicals, and insecticides, and to the poor quality meat, eggs, dairy and fish produced by factory farming? Compounded with a much more sedentary lifestyle than ever before in human history?

It appears that the human body has not adapted, since we are currently experiencing a crisis of epidemic proportions. Apparently, most people still eat high calorie food whenever it is available – but it is ALWAYS available. And there are no longer any famines (at least not in developed countries).

Prior to the 1970s, obesity was a relatively rare condition. Now 70% of Americans are overweight (40% globally), with over 42% of American adults in the obese category. And by the year 2035, predictions are the global obesity rate will be over 50%.

There have recently been articles suggesting obesity is not a problem because it’s “not necessarily unhealthy.” They claim our perception of what the human body should look like needs to change, and call for a “new paradigm,” despite evidence for calorie restriction.

It has long been recognized that obesity is associated with hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, and other conditions that all lead to premature death. Heart disease, cancer, and diabetes – the top three causes of death in the US – were rare or unknown to prehistoric ancestors (who were never obese) and may have emerged due to an evolutionary mismatch between modern day lifestyles and ancient environments.

Despite the attempts to normalize obesity, most overweight people still want to be slender, and a drug long used to control Type 2 Diabetes, Ozempic, is now being touted by the pharmaceutical industry as a weight loss drug, even recommended for children. But while its popularity has soared in America, amassing huge profits for a corrupted industry, it is extremely expensive, must be taken for life to keep working, and like all drugs is being shown to have negative side effects. Dozens of Ozempic lawsuits have already been filed.

But here is the good news – more and more evidence suggests there is a solution to not only weight loss but also to chronic disease, and it’s not only safe (for most people) but free. Fasting.

Everyone fasts during sleep, hence the term “breakfast.” But fasting overnight may not be long enough to maintain optimal health and longevity. The desire to eat high calorie foods is still programmed into our biology, thus we are eating fattening, poor quality food all the time.

The longest fast ever recorded took place in Scotland from 1965 to 1966, when a morbidly obese man water fasted for over one year, losing 276 pounds with no health problems. He maintained the loss, gaining back only 16 pounds over the next 25 years.

This indicates that long term fasting can not only be safe but effective against obesity. But does fasting have an effect on any other health problems? And if so, how and why?

Hippocrates – long considered the father of modern-day medicine – advocated fasting as a healing approach, claiming that it starved disease.

But does it really do that? What exactly happens when one goes a certain amount of time without any food?

Every tissue and organ is made up of cells, considered the “building blocks” of the human body, and when a cell is deprived of nutrition, it is forced to go into “survival mode.” It then basically “eats” itself to survive.

Scientists have discovered that fasting causes the cell to rid itself of nonfunctional parts that take up space (and slow performance) and to destroy pathogens that may be damaging it (like viruses and bacteria). The cell actually ‘recycles’ unneeded or damaged parts of itself to provide energy for its survival, and during this time also creates new, fully functioning parts. This biological process is called “autophagy.”

Researchers at Cedar Sinai Cancer are going as far as predicting that because of autophagy, fasting will be the next step in cancer treatment. Considering that over 611,000 cancer deaths are expected in the United States in 2024, that is good news indeed!

Stephen Freedland, MD, the director of the Center for Integrated Research in Cancer and Lifestyle at Cedars-Sinai Cancer, explains that fasting behaves in a way not unlike chemotherapy, in the sense that it directly targets cancers cells for destruction.

“I liken it to bears and hummingbirds,” Freedland explained. “In the absence of food, bears hibernate. But hummingbirds, like tumor cells, can’t hibernate—and they’ll die without food.”

Since fasting causes healthy cells to go into “hiding,” leaving only the cancer cells exposed, fasting in addition to chemotherapy is being considered for cancer patients, especially those with very aggressive tumors.

Studies are also showing that long-term fasting may be one of the most potent non-pharmacological interventions for the prevention and management of chronic diseases. A British study in March 2024 not only demonstrated evidence of health benefits beyond weight loss, but also that positive changes seemed to occur after only three days without food.

Autophagy can be triggered by other things besides fasting, including exercising, calorie restriction, and eliminating all carbohydrates. Fasting mimicking diets and intermittent fasting studies have even been shown to have anti-aging effects, since as the body ages autophagy decreases.

Enthusiasm for fasting is growing and growing. There are now clinics around the world that offer supervised long term fasting, such as TrueNorth in Santa Rosa California, and two Buchinger Wilhelmi clinics in Germany. Supervised fasting can now even be done remotely.

Do you have to fast to lose weight or to be healthy? No, there are other ways to shed pounds safely and to maintain good health. Michael Pollan, author of, “The Omnivore’s Dilemma,” advises this - “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

However, it is exciting to know that with a little effort such a simple practice can not only reduce obesity but repair damage caused by a less than perfect diet. Perhaps instead of pretending obesity is normal and should be embraced, a regimen of fasting could be considered the new paradigm?

We covered the amazing power of forgiveness to positively affect your physical, mental, and emotional health and to help you meet your goals. We also listed guidelines for forgiveness. This month, we will cover who you may wish to include on your forgiveness list. You know you need to forgive someone if you feel hurt or resentment when you think about this person. You should forgive everyone you can remember from the sandbox through today. Also, make a list of people you feel need to forgive you.

The list below will remind you of those you need to include on your personal forgiveness list. You will write their names on your list. Usually, the person you need to forgive most will come to your mind quickly. As you develop your list of those you wish to forgive, here are 10 people or institutions to jog your memory. You can complete this list in the privacy of your own home without contacting anyone unless you choose to. Next month, we will cover a simple technique to forgive people on your list, for people to forgive you, and for you to forgive yourself.

1. Parents

Parents are at the top of the forgiveness list for many people. Most parents did the best they could. However, even if they didn’t, you can tie up most of the energy you need to meet dreams and goals in your life by continuing to harbor anger and resentment toward your parents. Forgiveness does not mean they were correct in their actions that hurt you. Forgiveness is not something you do for others; it’s something you do for yourself. It releases the hold the past has on your life, allowing you to improve your health and meet your dreams and goals.

2. Spouses/Significant Others

This is a hot topic in my goal setting and forgiveness workshops. Sociologists who study the history of marriage tell us that there are at least two primary reasons so many of our marriages fail. One is that modern Americans are one of the most marrying societies in written history. We have more marriages than ever recorded, leading to more divorces than in the past. In addition, romantic relationships and marriage have been so romanticized in movies, advertisements, and television that we may expect more from our spouses than they can possibly deliver. This unique situation requires more communication, more patience, and more forgiveness than ever before.

3. Siblings and other relatives

Most siblings experience some type of rivalry. As adults, we may need some professional assistance to discern if the line was crossed between a normal amount of rivalry and whether the relationship was actually abusive. Forgiveness can provide great healing for anyone who has experienced an abusive relationship with siblings. You may need to forgive other relatives too. Maybe your children made you angry, didn’t meet your expectations, or never call or come to visit. Forgive your children. Life is much too short, and they are much too special.

4. Friends

It can be especially painful when you have been hurt by a friend. Friends are people you have made a conscious decision to be in a relationship with. The special relationship we develop with friends usually involves mutual trust. When we are betrayed by a friend, we may begin to question our ability to recognize qualities we hold dear, such as loyalty and honesty. We may wonder if we possess some sort of character flaw that makes us susceptible to attracting people who take advantage of our good nature. Forgiveness is especially important to heal when we are hurt by a friend.

5. Supervisor/Boss

People who work full-time may spend more waking hours at work than at home. When at home, most people have some authority over their routine, but at work, the boss is in control. When most people join the working world, it doesn’t take long to discover that a significant number of people in supervisory positions are not cut out for the job. Forgiveness, even on a daily basis, can become an important strategy for making peace with the boss.

6. Coworkers

There may be days when you feel more like you are in junior high school rather than an adult workplace. By the time most people are adults, they have developed set patterns for establishing their place in the tribal society we call “the workplace.” While many co-workers are actually helpful and supportive, there always seems to be at least one or two who are bent on taking the “fun” out of dysfunctional. If your work environment has become emotionally toxic, forgiveness can provide the scrubbing bubbles needed to clean it up.

7. Governments/public agencies and organizations

It’s easy to get mad at a non-personal entity such as a government or other public agency. It has become obvious that too many elected officials seem to have forgotten that it is the people who elected them that they represent and not lobbyists and their generous donors. Those trying to receive their services may feel like another number or just a statistic. Especially, the last four years have been a trying time in the Western world. When forgiving a government or public agency, it is important to remember that it is still people who make up the agency. It is still people who need to be forgiven.

8. Private businesses/agencies/organizations

As baby boomers, we were taught that if we were loyal, hardworking employees, we could expect to be taken care of by our employers with frequent raises, benefits, and a retirement package. My husband faithfully worked for a company for 25 years, until the leadership announced they were sending his job and others overseas. Along with many other American workers, we felt betrayed. It took my husband several years to land a job with a similar company. We had both forgiven all the people we could think of from our past and present, but had not thought of forgiving a company. When we fully forgave my husband’s company, the

company he wanted hired him within two weeks. Forgiveness works when directed at individuals and just as well when directed at businesses.

9. God/ Higher Power /Religions

I am always surprised by the people who claim to be angry with God. They believe that God should intervene constantly in human events, preventing bad things from happening to good people. They may be forgetting that it is free will that makes us distinctly human. This includes free will to do good or the free will to get into trouble. If given the choice, I believe most people would refuse to relinquish their free will, even if it came with a guarantee of a robotic but more peaceful existence. And, a robotic existence seems to be the path a small minority of leaders would like humanity to move towards. This is directly against God’s gift of free will. God provides an example by forgiving us and calls on us to forgive others. Instead of blaming God, we need to accept responsibility for our actions and hold others accountable for their actions. Forgiveness releases the past to make way for a more positive future.

10. Yourself
Some people have a difficult time forgiving themselves. They feel guilt and shame for events long past. They blame themselves and become their own worst enemy. When you begin working on your forgiveness list, don’t forget to place yourself at the top. Forgiving yourself will lighten your burden and make it so much easier to forgive others.

Come with me on my journey to answer these questions. Several years ago, I began teaching a workshop on goal setting for a church group. I thought this was a good place to begin because I first learned about forgiveness in church. I remember our minister talking about the importance of forgiveness and how Jesus had made it a central part of his ministry. We were taught to forgive others as God had forgiven us. I would think of my current hurts and grievances, and I would wonder how to forgive, and how do I know when my forgiveness had worked. If my feelings of hurt and anger arose, had I really forgiven?

I noticed in my goal setting workshops, my divorced participants' goals were not coming true as quickly as those never married or never divorced. I noticed they held onto a great amount of resentment and anger with their ex-spouses. It was all about Exes and Money and Money and Exes. There were also other participants angry at family members who appeared to be held back from obtaining their goals by a lack of forgiveness. That is when I began studying forgiveness and made some amazing discoveries.

I began looking in academic literature to find out if forgiveness had been studied scientifically. To my amazement, quite a few studies had been conducted on forgiveness, and it had held up to the scrutiny of the scientific method. Dr. Fred Luskin worked on A Campaign for Forgiveness, an organization that supported scientific research about forgiveness. Dr. Luskin writes about studies conducted at the University of Tennessee and the University of Wisconsin - Madison, which found physical health benefits related to forgiveness, including fewer medically diagnosed chronic conditions, lower blood pressure, less stress, and fewer physical symptoms from illness. Subjects participating in forgiveness studies report less depression, an improved spiritual connection with God, and an overall improvement in physical and mental well-being. If this was a medication, it would be a wonder drug.

Most research I studied looked at physical, mental, and emotional benefits, but no one has studied whether forgiveness would assist people to meet their life’s goals. I was eager to find out. However, I had to develop some guidelines to teach people about the nature of forgiveness and then to teach them “how to” forgive using an easy technique consistent with their faith tradition. The guidelines were to answer questions the participants had about forgiveness.

Who Should I Forgive? You should forgive everyone you can remember, living or deceased, from the sandbox through today. You can also forgive institutions, political parties and governments, etc. People worked in these organizations, remember; it’s still people you are forgiving. Make a list of people you need to forgive and work down your list.

How Do You Know I Need to Forgive? You know you need to forgive someone if, when you think of them, you feel hurt, anger, or resentment.

What If Someone Needs to Forgive You? - You can make a list of these people as well. You can use the same forgiveness statement you use to forgive others but change the words for others to forgive you.

Forgiveness is Something You Do For Yourself - Many people think forgiveness is a weak strategy that involves giving in to people who hurt you. This thought cannot be further from the truth. Forgiveness is one of the strongest and most loving things you can do for yourself and others. However, it doesn’t mean that what the person did to hurt you was acceptable or correct. Forgiveness is not the same thing as pardon. People should be held accountable for their behavior if it is unethical, immoral, illegal, or all three. Far from being a weak strategy, forgiveness can help the wheels of justice move, which is something I learned after working with numerous people in workshops and in my coaching practice.

Do I Need to Contact the Person I Am Forgiving? The answer is “no” you do not need to contact the person you are forgiving. It will work just the same. You can reconcile the relationship if you want to, but you don’t have to for forgiveness to work. You can forgive in the privacy of your own home.

What is Required for Forgiveness to Work? Only that you are sincere. You cannot say, “I forgive you, you old so-and-so. I forgive you, you mean terrible person.” You may still be angry with the person, and that’s fine; forgive them anyway. And, if you work on forgiveness, eventually your anger and resentment will fade. Forgiveness will still work if you are angry, as long as you’re sincere.

The Other Person May Be Affected as Well. You may wonder how the other person can be affected when you are forgiving them in the privacy of your own home and not contacting them. This is the most surprising thing that happened when I taught people to forgive, that there were supernatural results for many people. I think it can be scientifically explained, and our science is still catching up. Jesus certainly knew the power of forgiveness and its ability to change people and change the world. Workshop participants and coaching clients who had forgiven using a simple technique I taught them would report that sometimes people they had forgiven would contact them out of the blue and want to mend fences. They also reported they received money, checks in the mail, from people who had owed them money for years. Some reported old lawsuits were suddenly settled. Also, if an injustice was committed against them, suddenly the wheels of justice moved. Many mothers I worked with finally received child support payments they had not received for years. Divorces were suddenly settled amicably. Family members who had not called in years would suddenly contact the person forgiving them. One woman whose ex-husband molested all five of their children said that she had tried to get him in prison for eleven years. When she forgave him, the wheels of justice moved, and he went to prison. Again, not one of these people contacted the people they were forgiving to let them know.

Can you Forgive yourself? Yes, do not forget to forgive yourself. Lack of forgiveness can block your goals from coming true in every area of your life – money, relationships, job/career, and health. Forgiveness is freeing, and some people claim it feels like a heavy stone has been removed from around their necks, making them feel lighter than they have in years. So, can forgiveness positively affect your health? Absolutely, and every other area of your life.

I believe the reason we haven’t discovered how to forgive is the technique is so simple. It’s so easy, that even a child can do it. In the next edition, I will teach “how to” forgive using a simple technique and how to know when your forgiveness has worked.

With the controversy surrounding Covid, hospital protocols, and the mandates, many have started wondering if we are being told the truth.

Women should be asking the same question with regard to their reproductive health. As a woman who has long struggled with “hormonal issues” such as weight gain, hirsutism, and thyroid disease, I have long held a belief that there was something wrong with my hormones, and there was nothing I could do about it. Because I did not desire to be put on birth control, I never even brought my concerns up to my OBGYN.

In 2020, I came across a lifestyle program that fascinated me called Metabolic Renewal, The entire program was geared towards balancing hormones and metabolism. When I mentioned to a couple of the doctors I previously worked with that I was going to begin this program so I can “balance my hormones,” the response was, “You can’t do that.” Thankfully, I disregarded their ignorance. In that year, I lost 30 pounds, gained a more feminine shape, stopped growing hair in places it didn’t belong, and experienced regular and less painful menstrual cycles. I even went into remission for thyroid disease. I did all of it with nutrition, lots of walking, and relaxing activities such as baths, massages, and reading. According to the author of this program, stress is a major culprit in many women’s symptoms and conditions.

Fast forwarding several years, I was recently introduced to Dr. Sarah E. Hill’s book, This is Your Brain on Birth Control. Dr. Sarah E. Hill holds a PhD in Evolutionary Psychology and a B.A. in Anthropology. While I must admit many of my views conflict with Dr. Hill’s regarding the evolutionary debate and whether the sexual revolution and “the pill” actually benefited women, her research on the extent of HBC side effects cannot be disregarded or ignored. After watching a video highlighting Dr. Hill’s research, I was voracious for more information. In one video, titled The Surprising Link Between Women’s Brains and the Birth Control Pill, Dr. Hill shares the results from her research regarding HBC. She begins by discussing the side effects most of us have heard about such as such as stroke, weight gain, and pulmonary embolism. She also shares that headaches, blood clots and breakthrough bleeding can be experienced. Yet, Dr. Hill’s research goes beyond these commonly stated side effects. She goes on to talk about the sex hormones of women, which resonated with me, as I learned about this during the metabolic program I embraced years earlier.

Dr. Hill speaks on how estrogen and progesterone (the main sex hormones for women) increase and decrease throughout the menstrual cycle to account for readiness for pregnancy, getting pregnant (or not), and menstruation. Dr. Hill then goes on to say, “even though women take the birth control pill for a small number of targeted effects, it has an impact on women’s bodies from head to toe, including the brain.” Dr. Hill states that HBC changes our sex hormones. Sex hormones are not are not something that happens to us, but are a big part of who we are. Dr. Hill calls HBC the “anti-venom” for sexual desire in women. She states it can even change who we’re attracted to!

For example, she states “estrogen ‘loves’ testosterone,” so a woman not on HBC is more likely to be attracted to a masculine man. HBC inhibits estrogen production, and therefore women on HBC are less attracted to testosterone, the key to masculinity. Dr. Hill has also stated that HBC can increase depression, decrease our sex drive, increase inflammation, and cause many other ill effects!

Dr. Hill’s research brings up so many other questions: If HBC can have such dramatic effects on essentially who we are, should we not be concerned for ourselves and the young women in our life who are easily prescribed it? We must start asking ourselves: Why is it so commonly prescribed to women even in the early years of menarche? Why is it prescribed as a one-size-fits-all medicine? Why is there not more research out there to warn women of these potential side effects? Why does my doctor minimize the side effects? Why do doctors believe HBC is the only way to help young women and women with “irregularities” with their menstrual cycles?

My purpose in this article is not to actually answer those questions. Instead, let's go back to the original question: Can we trust those who call themselves experts? My hope is that this article encourages you instead to educate yourself, your mother, sister, daughter, friends to stop only looking for expert opinions, and instead become the expert yourself.

There is no one who knows your body better than you! I encourage you to become the expert of your own body! Fully inform yourself! Look into alternative treatments! Consider downloading an app that tracks your cycles, moods, symptoms, nutrition, exercise, etc. We must do this for ourselves and for the women in our lives, and we especially must teach our daughters - the next generation - to do the same!

There are many different methods of birth control available today: hormonal, barrier, surgical, and natural family planning are just a few. It is worth noting that in North Carolina, girls as young as thirteen years old are able to get access to HBC without parental consent. While that is concerning enough, it is even more concerning the number of physicians who prescribe HBC for adolescents and we moms are none the wiser. It is a reasonable and necessary goal to diligently track our cycles, increase nutrition, decrease stress, and always research risks and benefits so that we may truly be fully informed.

We now know that these chemicals store up in the body, particularly in fat cells, allowing the body to become toxic over time. Regular detoxing is essential in this toxin filled world.

The harmful effects

One of the most prevalent pesticides used in the United States is glyphosate, or more commonly known as RoundUp, and we now have mountains of evidence linking its ingestion to gut lining problems, creating a condition called Leaky Gut (see references HERE, HERE and HERE). Beneficial bacteria are also disrupted, causing various digestive disorders. Since pesticides tend to store up in the colon, there is a special concern about the increased risks of colon cancer. In fact, the World Atlas has even reported that between 4,000 and 20,000 new cases of cancer (various types) each year can be attributed to pesticides.

The human body is run largely by chemical messengers we call hormones which are susceptible to disruptions in their balance. When imbalance occurs, virtually every system in the body can be negatively affected. However, the reproductive system takes the biggest hit.

A study done in 2010 on Atrazine, a widely used pesticide (especially on corn), showed that male frogs were being chemically castrated and some even turned into females. Biologist, Tyrone B. Hayes, found that it is likely a large contributor to the decline in amphibians worldwide. The decreased immune function seen in the frogs was suggested to be decreasing the population, too. This same study showed that human cells were impacted as well, even stating a relationship between birth defects and low birth weight when the pregnant mother was exposed to the pesticide. Other research shows increases in these outcomes for pregnant women who live within a quarter mile of agricultural crops using any kind of pesticide. One would think Atrazine would be banned in the US after the reporting and research on its hormonal effects. Fortunately, for Europeans, Atrazine has been prohibited by the European Union. The United States has not been so lucky and many foods tainted with Atrazine are still sitting on the grocery store shelves.

Many pesticides are also neurotoxic or neurodegenerative, meaning that they are damaging to our body’s main control centers; our brain and nerves. Sadly, agriculture workers, who have close regular contact with large quantities of pesticides are at increased risk for Cognitive decline, Dementia, and Alzheimer's Disease. However, researchers are now seeing these same increased risks after chronic low-dose exposure (i.e. the average consumer) especially when there are mixed pesticides (which is common) or the individual is vitamin deficient. Unfortunately, given the weak nutrient state of our produce due to growing conditions and pesticides, vitamin deficiencies are commonplace.

Time Magazine, reported on research in 2010 that linked ADHD to pesticide consumption. This study showed through urinalysis that presence of pesticides revealed a 50% greater prevalence of ADHD in the 1,100 children studied. Children and adults with ADD or ADHD are now encouraged to avoid pesticides and eat organic foods.

Because of the massive commercial use of pesticides, it is nearly impossible to fully avoid them, even if you eat exclusively organic. Runoff causes a large amount of these pesticides to end up in water used for the cooking of food. Wildlife is also affected by the pesticide contaminated water runoff. Their reproductive systems are altered by these chemicals and in some cases are causing a decline in species. It leads one to wonder if the animals we consume further expose humans to additional pesticides.

Where to begin?

Buying 100% organic 100% of the time isn’t always an option. The EWG’s Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 lists will make your shopping trips less overwhelming. The Dirty Dozen list includes the most pesticide ridden produce that should be purchased organically. The Clean 15 provides a list of fruits and vegetables that contain the lowest amounts of pesticides when grown conventionally. Knowing this information is helpful for those of us who desire organic but also need to watch the pocketbook.

Every year a new list comes out with a few variations, but the list mostly remains the same. For instance, strawberries are almost always on the Dirty Dozen because of the high level of pesticide contamination. Whereas, avocados, because of their thick skin, are usually on the Clean 15. Keep a lookout for the 2024 version, but for now, follow 2023’s recommendations. We have provided a “Clean Produce Shopping Card” that can be downloaded, printed out, and taken with you while you shop.

The lists

The Dirty Dozen (the 12 most pesticide ridden fruits and veggies). Purchasing organic is a priority:

Strawberries

Spinach

Kale, collards, mustard greens

Peaches

Pears

Nectarines

Apples

Grapes

Bell/hot peppers

Cherries

Blueberries

Green beans

The Clean 15 (these foods are the safest to buy conventionally, or non-organic):

Avocados

Sweet Corn

Pineapple

Onion

Papaya

Sweet peas (frozen)

Asparagus

Honeydew melon

Kiwi

Cabbage

Mushrooms

Mangoes

Sweet potatoes

Watermelon

Carrots
